Trammel

Archimedes trammel is a simple tool for drawing an ellipse.

Turn on the axes. Draw a line from the y axis representing the trammel arm and a point at its intersection with the x axis.

Specify the distance AC and the distance AB.

Now define the position of point C on the x axis.

Create the locus of B as t varies

Dragging point C shows the trammel arm in motion.
